Amazing animals such as purple sea urchins, ochre sea stars and giant green sea anemones all call this habitat home. One of the best locations to visit tide pools in Oregon is Ecola Point, which is found at the north point of Crescent Beach in Ecola State Park. In corners and crevices of rocky outcroppings, peaceful pools of seawater teem with life just beneath the surface. Expect to see less people here and great boulders for tide pools! Indian Beach is located by walking to the north side of Cannon Beach to Ecola State Park. If you go: leave time to enjoy the scenic trail, and to visit Pacific Rim National Park Reserve’s visitor’s center, which is directly adjacent. Only attempt the tide pools along the bluffs at extremely low tide. With plenty of algae around, crabs are quite well fed within the intertidal zone, but they will also feast on snails, diatoms, gastropods, kelp. Kids love the chorus of music the pebbles make in the rolling surf, and small fish and more tidal creatures can be spotted here. To access Silver Point at Cannon Beach, take an easy walk south from the Tolovana Beach State Recreation Site or access it by walking north from Arcadia Beach. A variety of crab species make up the marine creatures of tide pools, including shore crabs and hermit crabs (although hermits are not true crabs they are more closely related to squat lobster). Some of the best tide pooling at Cannon Beach is at Silver Point (great view of Haystack Rock!), Indian Beach, and Ecola Point. While Cannon Beach is known for the infamous Haystack Rock, this beach also has tons of wonderful spots for tide pools where you’ll find animals like sea stars, Giant Green Anemone, and crabs!
